Maintenant, il faut l&rsquo;histoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The first step, generally speaking, before typing the \u201c<em>screenplay<\/em>,\u201d is to write a <strong>treatment<\/strong>. A <strong>treatment<\/strong> is a very long <strong>synopsis<\/strong> that is, in terms of length, roughly one-sixth of the <strong>dialogue-driven script<\/strong>. The script with dialogue is what is commonly referred to as: <strong>screenplay<\/strong>. For a ninety-minute film, the treatment will be fifteen pages long. Comment je structure alors ?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u00e0, on commence \u00e0 rentrer dans le dur. Il n&rsquo;y a pas de recettes miracles pour structurer une histoire. Mais, d&rsquo;abord, il faut d\u00e9j\u00e0 trouver son histoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-comment-je-trouve-mon-histoire-\">How do I find my story?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The best thing to do, at least to start with, is to choose a topic that\u2019s close to our hearts. A subject you\u2019re familiar with, a topic you know well. That way, you avoid a whole lot of research\u2014<em>whose sole purpose is to make the story more believable<\/em>\u2014and it also helps you avoid writing stories that are too \u201cpredictable\u201d or overly convoluted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The more personal your story is, the more it resonates with the audience\u2014and, as a result, the more original it is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-et-si-ma-vie-est-parfaitement-banale-je-fais-comment-\">And if my life is completely ordinary, what am I supposed to do?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eh bien, l\u00e0, il faut inventer. Creativity doesn\u2019t just fall from the sky. It\u2019s something you have to work on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next, once you have a foundation for your story, you start developing and structuring it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5-la-st-euh-ruc-ture\">La ST-euh-RUC-TURE.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">I could leave this paragraph blank. There isn\u2019t just one \u201cstructure,\u201d but <strong>several<\/strong> structures. In fact, there are as many structures as there are screenwriters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pour \u00eatre s\u00fbr et certain de ne pas partir dans tous les sens, il est primordial de conna\u00eetre, tout d&rsquo;abord, sa fin. La conclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Si vous savez, avant m\u00eame de commencer, o\u00f9 vous voulez aller, il sera beaucoup plus ais\u00e9 de s&rsquo;y rendre. This first section accounts for between twenty-five and thirty-five percent of the film\u2019s total runtime. This <strong>exposition<\/strong> can be much shorter; there are no hard and fast rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>L&rsquo;exposition<\/strong> : o\u00f9 les personnages, l&rsquo;histoire, le contexte ainsi que les enjeux sont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s. C&rsquo;est une premi\u00e8re partie qui repr\u00e9sente entre vingt-cinq et trente-cinq pour cent de la dur\u00e9e totale du film. Cette <strong>exposition<\/strong> peut \u00eatre bien plus courte, il n&rsquo;y a pas de r\u00e8gle \u00e9crite.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Obstacles, conflicts, and trials<\/strong>: the most important part of the film\u2014accounting for more than fifty percent of its total runtime\u2014where the characters develop, where they overcome (or fail to overcome) insurmountable trials, and which leads to the <em>climax<\/em>: the ultimate, culminating point of no return in the <strong>conflict<\/strong>, thus leading to its\u2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Resolution<\/strong>: This is where the final <strong>conflict<\/strong> and its resolution take place, leading to the only logical conclusion for the hero (and his companions). The shortest part of the film.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Il s&rsquo;agit l\u00e0 de la structure typique de toute \u0153uvre \u00ab artistique \u00bb. Un d\u00e9but, un milieu et une fin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Si cette structure est trop simpliste et que vous n&rsquo;arrivez pas \u00e0 \u00e9crire, alors vous pouvez adopter (<em>ou non<\/em>) la fameuse structure narrative dite du \u00ab\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Voyage_du_h\u00e9ros\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Voyage du H\u00e9ros<\/a><\/strong>\u00ab\u00a0, mais vous pouvez aussi d\u00e9structurer compl\u00e8tement votre histoire. Entrem\u00ealer les diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9tapes, les diff\u00e9rents pans de votre histoire sans vous soucier de la <strong>screenplay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Votre structure trouv\u00e9e, il ne reste qu&rsquo;\u00e0 \u00e9crire le traitement qui, pour l&rsquo;instant, n&rsquo;est qu&rsquo;un gros r\u00e9sum\u00e9 \u2013\u00a0toujours au pr\u00e9sent\u00a0\u2013 de votre histoire en d\u00e9veloppement. Qu&rsquo;est-ce qu&rsquo;il raconte, le monsieur ?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vous savez d\u00e9sormais ce qu&rsquo;est un traitement, vous savez comment trouver une histoire, vous savez comment cultiver votre imagination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">C&rsquo;est excellent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"8-le-message\">The message.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">But have you pinpointed the message of your film? Its ultimate goal? The perspective you\u2019re advocating? After all, that is the <strong>very purpose of a film<\/strong>. You have a vision to champion, you have a story to tell\u2014yet is that message crystal clear even before you begin?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is it too overshadowed, blurred, or nonexistent in the movie you're writing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are you certain that the perspective, structure, and narrative you've chosen are appropriate for the message(s) you want to convey?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"9-les-personnages\">The Characters.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Est-ce que vos personnages sont attachants ? Suscitent-ils suffisamment d&#8217;empathie afin que le spectateur puisse s&rsquo;identifier \u00e0 eux ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Does the antagonist, the antihero, have a goal? Does he still have a shred of humanity? If not, do you know why? (<em>\u201cHe's evil because he's evil\u201d is not a valid answer here<\/em>.) What motivates him?<\/p>\n\n\n\t<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-gif aligncenter\">\n\t\t<figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-gif-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top:122%\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<iframe src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/FOJJ7faKeAafS\" title=\"negan\"><\/iframe>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figcaption class=\"wp-block-jetpack-gif-caption gallery-caption\">Qu&rsquo;est-ce qui le motive, lui ?<\/figcaption>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t<\/div>\n\t\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vous devez conna\u00eetre tous vos personnages, vous devez les conna\u00eetre comme s&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agissait de vos meilleur(e)s ami(e)s, vous savez ce qu&rsquo;ils aiment, ce qu&rsquo;ils d\u00e9testent, leur couleur pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e, la couleur des yeux du chien de leur p\u00e8re, ce qui les motive, ce qui les rend plus forts, ce qui les affaiblit. Vous ne pouvez pas laisser de zone d&rsquo;ombre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you can answer all these questions, if you convey a clear message, and if your characters have depth and a clear, distinct, and precise motivation, then\u2014and only then\u2014you are ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Can't answer some (or all) of the questions? Don't panic. Pick up a book and read it. Find a movie and watch it. From now on, try to figure out the motivations of the different characters, and look for the message and the point of view presented by the <strong><em>novelist-screenwriter<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Were you able to spot them in these works? Once this valuable document is written, you can move on to the next step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Which is the scene-by-scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"11-cest-quoi-%C3%A7a-encore-\">C&rsquo;est quoi, \u00e7a, encore ?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The scene-by-scene is the intermediate step before the <strong>continuity<\/strong>. This is where the screenplay begins to come to life, little by little.
